Former Rovers youngster Dan Pike has joined League of Ireland club Dundalk following his departure from Tranmere.

The right-back progressed through the youth ranks at Ewood Park and was a regular for the Under-21 squad. He was named on the bench at first-team level but failed to make a senior appearance.

Pike spent time on loan at AFC Fylde as the Coasters won the National League North, securing promotion to the top flight of the non-league pyramid.

He departed Rovers last summer and was offered a deal by Tranmere, playing 20 times as the Merseyside outfit finished 16th in League Two last season.

The defender had been searching for a new club since leaving Prenton Park earlier this summer and will now play alongside Felix Goddard, who has joined Dundalk on loan until January.

“Dan is a natural right-back so he will come in for Archie (Davies) but can also give us good cover on both sides,” manager Jon Daly told the club website.

“He has played at a good level and he has been on my radar for some time so it’s good to finally get him over and I think he will be a really good addition to the group.

“It’s important that he comes in and hits the ground running. He knows he has big boots to fill but it’s a challenge that Dan is looking forward to.”

Pike added: “This is a really good opportunity for me to come to Ireland, play games and try and enjoy my football again.

“I’m predominantly right-sided but I can do a job at left-back, I work hard and I like to think that defensively I’m good at one-on-one situations and I’m looking forward to getting started.”
