Felix Goddard is hoping to “kickstart” his career after joining Irish side Dundalk on a loan deal until January 2025.

The 20-year-old goalkeeper heads to the League of Ireland with the aim of getting regular minutes under his belt in senior football.

Goddard spent most of last season on loan at Marine, making 37 appearances for the non-league side before suffering a serious knee injury in January.

During his time on Merseyside, he helped the club reach the FA Cup first round proper before they were knocked out by League Two Harrogate.

The shot stopper is now keen to show what he can do at Oriel Park as Jon Daly’s side aim to beat the drop. They are currently ninth in the table, having won four league games since the start of the campaign.

“My goalkeeper coach at Blackburn Rovers told me the League of Ireland is a good level and I’m here to try and help Dundalk stay in the Premier Division. It’s a challenge I’m looking forward to,” Goddard told the club website.

“I’ve been impressed by the set-up,” he added. “The facilities are top class and this is the kind of club I want to be to kickstart my career.”

Daly added: “Felix is a goalkeeper that is very highly regarded at Blackburn and they are looking for him to get first-team exposure and to come over here and play.

“The conversations I had with the goalkeeper coaches at Blackburn were very positive.

“He controls the space behind the backline well, which is important when you want to press high, and they’ve said he’s the type of goalkeeper that can win us games so we are looking forward to working with him.”
