Arnor Sigurdsson wants to see more consistency on an individual and collective basis in his second season at Blackburn Rovers.

The Icelandic attacker returned for pre-season training on Monday alongside Sam Szmodics, after being granted extra time off due to international duty.

Those matches against England and The Netherlands, where he came on as a second-half substitute both times, were Sigurdsson's first minutes since March. He missed the end of the campaign with ankle ligament damage, also sustained playing for his country.

In Sigurdsson's debut campaign, Rovers fans saw flashes of brilliance. The debut goal at Ipswich, the brace at Queens Park Rangers and the opener against Bristol City.

Like Rovers, there were less of those eye-catching moments in the second half of the season as he adapted to the physical demands of the Championship.

The 25-year-old feels he is ready to step things up a level after a learning curve in his debut season. Sigurdsson wants to produce more consistency and also see more stable performance from the team overall.

"I know what is waiting. Last year, I was new and I didn't know what the physical levels were," he told RoversTV.

"It was tough at times with a lot of games and early injuries. The team's performance was up and down. I learned a lot that I can take into this season.

"When you play the first season, you don't know what to expect. The second season, I think I'll enjoy it more, I know what is coming and I'm ready for it.

"We want to put together stable performances, as a team and me. Not playing two games very good and five not so good. We need to find stability.

"We have a lot of good football players in the team, we showed that at times last year. That's the most important thing.

"As a player, you always want to perform. I think I've shown what I am capable of doing, it is about doing it week in, week out.

"I know what's coming, how to prepare for three games in a week, it's not new for me any more. I am ready and excited to get started."

Sigurdsson started last season injured, after aggravating a groin problem on Rovers' pre-season trip to Austria. As a result, he didn't make his debut until late September, missing the rest of the warm-up matches.

This time around, he is fit and sharp after featuring for Iceland in June. He hopes that will make a big difference, with his batteries recharged.

"It makes a massive difference," he said on pre-season.

"I am not coming in as a new player, I know everyone and I'm fully focused on being ready. Last year, I was unlucky to get the injury in Austria.

"It's as important for me and the team to get going and get my fitness levels up.

"I've recharged my batteries, I've looked back at last season to see what I did well and how I can improve.

"It's nice to be back, I had a good time off to recharge the batteries and I'm ready to get going.

"After the last game, I've been doing rehab with the national team to keep it going before the games in June. I had a break but still working hard to get back from the injuries.

"It's been really good to play those games, two special games against England and Holland. Being back onto the pitch and playing games has been a really good feeling."
