Leopold Wahlstedt has sent a classy message to Blackburn Rovers fans after his transfer to Danish club AGF.

The goalkeeper has left Ewood Park after one season at the club. Wahlstedt signed a three-year deal with Rovers last summer after signing from Odd.

It's understood that Rovers have recouped the six-figure transfer fee they spent on Wahlstedt 12 months ago. Given his difficult debut campaign, many supporters will see that as good business.

Whilst Wahlstedt showed the potential to be a good goalkeeper, he struggled to adapt to the physicality of English football. He wished the club well in a parting message on social media.

"I would like to say thank you to all the players, staff and fans at @rovers," he wrote on Instagram.

"I wish the club all the best in the future and hopefully this great club can get back to where it belongs."

AGF Sporting Director, Stig Inge Bjørnebye, said: "Leopold has been in a positive development as a goalkeeper, and we have followed him for a long time, and we have not been alone in this.

"He has strong qualities on the line and is skilled in the game with the ball, and we believe that he will be able to develop further in our skilled goalkeeper team, where we have a strong routine in Jesper Hansen and a young talent in Jonathan Hutters.

"So it is a great pleasure that we have now succeeded in bringing Leopold to AGF and we look forward to welcoming him at Fredensvang, where he will have the opportunity to participate in the preparations leading up to the new season."

Rovers will now look to sign a new goalkeeper to compete with Aysnley Pears for the new season. The Lancashire Telegraph reported earlier this week that Tim Krul is a name on the club's shortlist.

John Eustace is likely to favour an experienced goalkeeper, with John Ruddy also previously linked. Rovers want to add more experience and leadership to their young squad.
