Tyrhys Dolan is set to stay at Blackburn Rovers this summer despite entering the last 12 months of his contract, The Lancashire Telegraph can exclusively reveal.

The 22-year-old saw his option triggered by Rovers which extended his stay at Ewood Park by a further 12 months. His deal now runs until 2025 and Blackburn would be due compensation if he left on a free transfer due to his age.

Dolan's future has been a hot topic over the last year, with Rovers first engaging in contract talks last year. However, an agreement wasn't reached and those discussions were put on pause whilst the attacker was out injured.

Gregg Broughton provided a further update in March, stating deals had been offered to Dolan and Sam Gallagher, but they had neither been signed nor rejected with Rovers focused on staying in the Championship.

The Lancashire Telegraph can reveal that further talks have taken place between Rovers, Dolan and representatives this summer. The conclusion is that, unless a major offer arrives, the 22-year-old will remain at Ewood Park.

Dolan is understood to be very happy at Blackburn Rovers and enjoys working with John Eustace. He is not pushing to leave Ewood Park this summer despite having less than 12 months left on his deal.

However, it is unlikely that a new contract will be agreed soon. The offer made to Dolan has not been accepted due to the finances proposed.

John Eustace is working with a tight budget to improve his squad this summer and, therefore, retaining players is seen as a priority. It is more likely to be evolution than revolution at Ewood Park.

Dolan has been assured that he will still be a key part of the squad for 2024/25 even if a new contract isn't agreed. He is fully committed to the club and wants to help the team improve on last season's finish.

A fresh deal has not been ruled out but, at the time of writing, Dolan is likely to remain at Blackburn for the final year of his deal and assess his future throughout the next 12 months.

If Rovers have more financial wiggle room to improve their offer, there remains every chance that Dolan could stay. If not, then a free transfer is possible in the summer of 2025.

Blackburn would be eligible for compensation if Dolan leaves at the end of his deal in 2025. Clubs who sign a player under the age of 24 are liable to pay a fee, if that player has rejected a new deal at their former club.

Dolan batted away questions about his future when interviewed last season, insisting he was focused on his football. He's a popular member of the Rovers dressing room and has also been widely praised for his off-the-pitch work too.
