Birmingham City boss Chris Davies will try to convince Paik Seung-ho to accept a season in League One despite being linked with Blackburn Rovers.
Reports last week claimed Rovers head coach John Eustace is interested in signing the Blues midfielder, who arrived in January at St Andrew's. It's unclear whether Paik is willing to endure a season in the third tier, with other clubs circling, and risk damaging his international hopes.
He's been capped 17 times by South Korea and that could push him, and other international players at Birmingham, to see a move away this summer.
Davies will sit down with Paik and Birmingham's other wanted players to try and convince them to buy into League One for one season.
“I have had a couple of conversations but more will happen in the next few weeks when the players come back in," he told BirminghamLive.
“My message to the players around that is that I’m a symbol of exactly that. I’m someone who could well be a manager in the Championship now, possibly even higher who knows, but I have chosen to come to a club that’s going somewhere.
“It’s for me to make the vision, the project and where we’re going with this crystal clear to them so they can see that yes, we’re in League One, but we’re going somewhere and you want to be part of that.
"That is exactly the message I’m going to be getting across to those players who are maybe considering where they are at now in relation to where they want to be.”
Rovers return for pre-season training on Monday with Eustace yet to add any new faces to his squad. Recruitment discussions are ongoing at Ewood Park, with adding goals to the team a clear priority.
In midfield, Rovers are already well stocked with Lewis Travis giving Eustace five options from the first team. John Fleck could well make that six if he earns himself a new contract over pre-season.
