Here's a round-up of some quickfire Blackburn Rovers tid-bits you might have missed over the weekend.

Sigurdsson makes injury return

Arnor Sigurdsson made his return to action on Friday night as Iceland beat England at Wembley.

The Blackburn Rovers forward was a second-half substitute, coming on in the 82nd minute. It's the first football he's played since March, when he suffered ankle ligament damage.

Iceland now face The Netherlands on Monday hoping for another scalp. Rovers return for pre-season training on Monday, June 24.

Former winger released

Former Blackburn Rovers winger Ian Poveda is on the search for a new club after being released by Leeds United.

The diminutive winger spent the 2021/22 on loan at Ewood Park but was limited to 10 appearances after a serious ankle injury. Poveda remained on Rovers' books with the club unable to cancel the loan, with the setback ruling him out for five months.

It's been a series of loans for him since then, having failed to break into the Leeds first team after joining in 2020. His four-and-a-half-year spell at Elland Road has now come to an end, with the club confirming his contract won't be renewed in their retained list.

Poveda failed to hit the heights at nearby Blackpool, only scoring three goals and registering two assists as the Seasiders were relegated back to League One.

Sheffield Wednesday are reportedly now leading the chase for his signature as a free agent after he produced his most encouraging displays at Hillsborough. He joined the Owls in January and became popular with supporters after a string of eye-catching displays.

Adam Wharton number revealed

Blackburn Rovers fans looking to get an England shirt with 'one of their own' on the back, can now do so.

Adam Wharton's place in the European Championships squad was confirmed this week and he will wear number 25 for his country.

The 20-year-old wore 36 in his debut season at Ewood Park, switching to 23 this campaign. He wears 20 for Crystal Palace but kept 23 for England's warm-up matches this week.

It's now been revealed that he'll wear 25 should he get on the pitch this summer.
