John Park is set to return to Blackburn Rovers to head up their new recruitment team, The Lancashire Telegraph can confirm.
Park left Ewood Park in 2022 with Tony Mowbray when their contracts expired. He was replaced by Gregg Broughton as Rovers moved to a Director of Football and Head Coach model.
After what is being viewed, both internally and externally, as three underwhelming transfer windows in succession, Rovers are clearing the decks this summer.
Broughton left Rovers 'by mutual agreement' last month with Chief Executive Steve Waggott deciding to bring two new faces in to split his responsibilities.
Broughton had previously been responsible for six key aspects of the club. They were First Team, Academy, Recruitment, Medical, Athletic Performance and Analysis Departments.
Those area of the club will now be divided with Park to return as Head of Recruitment whilst Adam Owen is set to arrive as Head of Technical.
Sean Kimberley, who worked as Head of Recruitment under Broughton, is expected to leave the club. Kimberley joined Rovers last summer to replace Gus Williams, who had only lasted 12 months in the role himself. Kimberley previously spent nine years as Rovers’ Assistant Academy Manager and has a close affiliation with the club.
Head of UK Recruitment Tom Sutton is leaving after accepting a role at Huddersfield Town whilst Head of European Scouting, Luke Griffin, announced his departure in April and is set to join Leicester City.
Park will spearhead Rovers' new-look recruitment set-up, having held the role for a year under Mowbray previously.
After leaving Ewood Park, Park made the controversial move to join Rangers, having built his reputation as a talent spotter at rivals Celtic.
He left the club after Michael Beale was sacked in December and reunited with Mowbray at Birmingham City as Head of International Scouting. He will now leave the Blues after their relegation into League One to rejoin Rovers.
In addition to Park, Owen is set to join in a new Head of Technical role. He has a wealth of experience having previously worked with The FA, Lech Poznan, Hibernian, Seattle Sounders, Benfica, Rangers, Sheffield United and the Welsh FA in the last decade.
John Eustace is expected to work closely with Park and Waggott on Blackburn Rovers' recruitment this summer. The head coach is expected to have some funds available after the January sale of Adam Wharton.
Adding more goal-scorers to the team is understood to be a high priority for Eustace. Rovers were far too reliant on Sam Szmodics, who could leave if the right Premier League offer lands, for goals last season.
Rovers have needed a number nine for 18 months but have been unable to find the right fit. Niall Ennis and Semir Telalovic were recruited to fill the void but didn't manage a league goal between them.
Sam Gallagher's future is uncertain, with 12 months left on his contract. The striker is set for talks with the club to thrash out his long-term plans, with Ipswich Town reportedly still interested in his services.
