Former Rovers favourite Morten Gamst Pedersen is a free agent at 42 – but isn’t ready to hang up his boots yet.

Pedersen, known for his spectacular left foot, spent the past season at Ranheim in the second tier of Norwegian football.

The veteran midfielder now finds himself without a club and is reportedly “ready for an adventure”. He is said to have had several offers, including one in Senegal.

Pedersen arrived at Ewood Park in 2004 and went on to spend nine years in East Lancashire, racking up 350 appearances for the club.

He scored 34 goals and chipped in with 41 assists in the Premier League, also reaching the FA Cup and League Cup semi-finals.

Pedersen turned down an opportunity to play European football at Rosenborg to follow his dream of playing in England but later achieved that feat with Rovers, featuring in the UEFA Cup.

The Norwegian was also a regular on the international stage, winning more than 80 caps for his country.

He remained at Rovers despite relegation in 2012 and played in the Championship the following season before eventually heading to Turkish club Karabukspor.

Over the past decade, the 42-year-old has had spells with Rosenborg, Tromsø, Alta and Asane among others.

Pedersen remains a hugely popular figure among Rovers supporters and was a special guest at Ewood Park for the goalless draw against Southampton in April.

Last summer, he told Rovers Chat: “There have been ups and downs, I have been cheered and booed. But at the end of it all, I think we have a really good relationship.

“That was one of the most important things, that I left the club with a good relationship with the fans and the people at the club. When I come back, it is still like coming home.”
