John Eustace reiterated his belief that avoiding relegation was an achievement for Blackburn Rovers.

Victory at Leicester City on the final day of the season ensured Rovers remained in the Championship. Had they lost, relegation to League One would've been confirmed with every other team winning.

Eustace's side delivered at the most important moment and the scenes after the full-time whistle were one of relief but also celebration. 

The Rovers head coach doubled down on his stance that staying up was worthy of champagne, citing the change in culture and mentality that he's overseen since arriving at Ewood Park.

"I think it's been evident (character) since I came in, you go to Elland Road and win," he told The Lancashire Telegraph.

"You go to Sunderland and win. You go down to ten men against Plymouth 10 minutes after half time and you stay in the game, you show fight and togetherness.

"A lot of the teams we have played have been on the up too and in good moments, on good runs. We had to be competitive in those moments.

"You have to stay level-headed. The Championship is relentless, I have been in it for 25 years. I know how it works, it's important everyone else realises that as well.

"What a huge achievement to stay in the league with 53 points on the last day when everyone else won.

"It's a huge achievement for the group. They were written off when I came in. A lot of games were lost, week in, week out.

"The winning culture wasn't there and we've had to change that. The group have been sensational, they have picked up vital points at tough times.

"They will learn from that and I hope they have a couple of big bottles of champagne in there and enjoy themselves."

"It was an unbelievable feeling when that second one went in. You know you're over the line," he added.

"The fans since I've been here have been fantastic. The one thing I've asked them to be is connected with the players, don't worry about the club, myself or anything.

"Go and back those players. The players have given 100% commitment, the results haven't always been there but that commitment is there for all to see.

"Fans and the players really deserved that win today."

Rovers were without Dom Hyam, who picked up an illness in the final 24 hours before the weekend which ruled him out of the match.

Harry Pickering moved to left-centre-back and impressed. Ben Chrisene came in for the final appearance of his loan spell and did his job well too.

"It's about the squad and not being disappointed," Eustace said on Hyam's absence.

"When we have a setback, it's about not jumping on it, stay calm, the squad is a top squad to work with and nobody lets you down.

"I knew Pickering going to left-centre-half and Ben (Chrisene) coming in, they wouldn't let us down."
