Here's how The Lancashire Telegraph scored the players' performances, with a six representing par for the course.
Aynsley Pears - 7
Didn't have anything of note to do. Southampton's two main efforts were off target. Quick off his line at the end to smother Sulemana.
Callum Brittain - 8
Really solid defensively against Fraser and then Edozie. Saved Rovers a goal with a brilliant goal-line block to deny Walker-Peters.
Dom Hyam - 7
Won his headers and duels against Armstrong. One loose pass playing out which gave the ball to Adams but otherwise a solid display.
Scott Wharton - 8
Played his part in restricting Southampton to very few clear-cut chances.
Harry Pickering - 7
A surprise to see him on the team sheet after coming off at Sunderland. Didn't put a foot wrong against
Sondre Tronstad - 8
Brilliant in the middle. Broke the ball up and played it simple.
Joe Rankin-Costello - 8
Another fantastic performance. All-energy, winning the ball back and then crashing the box. He's been superb since returning from injury.
Ryan Hedges - 6
Lasted 25 minutes before he clutched the back of his hamstring running for a loose ball. Hopefully nothing serious but a blow for him personally.
Sam Szmodics - 7
Had a couple of sights of goal. One audacious effort in the first half from 30 yards and another blocked which he perhaps should've passed.
Tyrhys Dolan - 7
Worked his absolutely socks off, really put in a shift defensively and won the ball back several times. One effort on goal but Bazunu saved.
Sam Gallagher - 7
Didn't get a chance to score against his former club but certainly proved a handful again.
Substitutes:
Dilan Markanday (Hedges, 27') - 7
Worked very hard defensively and looked a threat on the ball. An encouraging couple of performances from the bench this week.
Unused substitutes: Wahlstedt, McFadzean, Carter, Chrisene, Garrett, Buckley, Moran, Telalovic
Referee: Craig Pawson
Attendance: 15,679
