Here's how The Lancashire Telegraph scored the players' performances, with a six representing par for the course.

Aynsley Pears - 7

Didn't have a great deal to do on his return to the side. What he did was done with assuredness.

Callum Brittain - 7

Got into some decent crossing positions down the right. Dovetailed nicely with Hedges down that side.

Dom Hyam - 8

Kept Latte Lath quiet. Won a lot of header and led the defence very well.

Scott Wharton - 7

Rock solid alongside Hyam. Restricted Boro to very little.

Harry Pickering - 6

Had a bit of trouble with the very bright Jones in the first half but kept him quieter after the break.

Sondre Tronstrad - 7

Calm and composed on his return from injury. A big boost to have him back in the middle of the pitch.

John Buckley - 7

Won a lot of balls in midfield, breaking up play and stopping Boro attacks. Not quite his sparkling best on the ball but good off it.

Ryan Hedges - 8

Edged it for man of the match. Really composed on the ball and encouraged Rovers to play through the third more.

Sam Szmodics - 7

Had Rovers' best chance with a decent opening at goal but Dieng made the save. A quieter afternoon otherwise.

Arnor Sigurdsson - 6

Worked hard down the left side but couldn't unlock a stubborn Boro defence.

Sam Gallagher - 6

Struggled to play his way into the game in the first half with a few loose touches. Improved after the break. Ran his socks off as always.

Substitutes:

Tyrhys Dolan (Sigurdsson, 66') - 6

Had a couple of presentable chances to drive at the Boro defence but the final ball was lacking.

Yasin Ayari (Buckley, 71') - 6

Did fine after coming on in midfield.

Ben Chrisene (Hedges, 88') - N/A

A late change to shore up the defence.

Semir Telalovic (Gallagher, 88) - N/A

On for the last few minutes.

Unused substitutes: Wahlstedt, Koumetio, Garrett, Moran, Markanday.
