Lewis Travis has no regrets about joining Ipswich Town despite limited game time since leaving Blackburn Rovers on loan.
The Rovers skipper departed at the start of the January transfer window in search for more regular minutes. Travis also wanted to play as a holding midfield, which didn't tally with the plans of then-head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson.
Travis would've been an ideal fit for John Eustace's 5-2-3 system but is instead trying to help Ipswich earn promotion. Given how well the Tractor Boys are performing, earning a regular spot is easer said than done.
But despite only four Championship starts for the Portman Road side, the 26-year-old has no no regrets about his mid-season switch.
VERDICT: Rovers must rediscover forgotten habit to secure survival
“There were teams that I felt I could’ve joined who would’ve been an easier option, where I would’ve stepped in and played every single game,” Travis told the East Anglian Daily Times.
“At Ipswich, I knew it’d be tougher to get in and get games, but the reward could be massive.
“There’s no point in taking the easy option in life. I’m still young and this is a fantastic opportunity, a bit of a risk, so I’m really glad I took it.
“When I spoke to the manager on the phone before I signed, I could tell he was a very genuine person and that is often hard to come by. When I asked him a few questions he answered them truthfully and it helped me to pick Ipswich.
“I think it’s a bit tougher and I said it in the programme last weekend. It’s just ‘You’re getting in there and you’re getting in there now’. There’s no pre-season so you’re jumping straight in, like I did.
“With a pre-season under my belt, I would have known more about the tactics and the way the manager wanted to play.
“I feel I could have performed better than I have done but that’s not the way it works sometimes. I believe there is more to come from me, at least that’s the way I feel about things and we’ll just have to wait and see.”
Travis has two years left on his Rovers contract and will return in the summer before a decision is made on his future.
