John Eustace has admitted Blackburn Rovers are balancing players' fitness whilst also trying to name their best team.
Rovers are set for their eighth game in 24 days when they host Millwall on Tuesday night in what is a must-win fixture. The Lions have won their last two Championship games to ease their relegation concerns and only trail Rovers on goal scored.
After such a hectic period, Rovers made a sluggish start at Swansea on Saturday and found themselves two goals down by the 20-minute mark. They improved in the second half but the task was too uphill and they lost 2-1.
An emotional and exerting night against Newcastle in the FA Cup the previous midweek drained a lot from the group. Despite that, Eustace only made one change to the team.
VERDICT: Blackburn must accept relegation truth to avoid unthinkable fate
The head coach admitted he is trying to keep players fresh whilst also getting the best team on the pitch.
"We've had injuries but whoever we have picked have been fantastic," Eustace said.
"The desire, the attitude has been very good. It is about the squad, we want to play our best players but sometimes you have to rest players as well.
"Those that have come in have certainly not let anyone down. I am sure there were a few tired bodies but we did limit Swansea to those two chances in the first half.
"We had three of four chances to score. The performance in the first half wasn't what we wanted but we still looked dangerous.
"We were a bit sluggish but I must say again we had three or four really good chances to score in that first half. Maybe if we were fresher, we would have taken those chances.
"We came out second half, freshened things up, changed things tactically and the lads who came in did well.
"We need to be more clinical in the final third, we tested the goalkeeper a few times and dragged a couple of shots wide as well. We need to be more clinical in that final third."
Eustace's side have won two of their last 17 Championship and that worrying form line has supporters panicking about relegation. With a tough run-in to come, home matches against the Lions and Plymouth Argyle are crucial.
Tuesday night will be Eustace's first official home match in the Championship and he is hoping the supporters can make a big impact in a massive week for the club.
"Championship football is about the right mentality, getting that togetherness," he said.
"That desire to win football games, there are 11 games to come and we take each one as it comes. It'll be great to get back to Ewood Park
"In the two games we've had at home, the fans have been fantastic. They have really backed the boys. Hopefully, we can create a really good atmosphere in the next two games and let them be the 12th man.
"Every game no matter who you play, home or away, is very difficult in the Championship. We will prepare properly for Tuesday and hopefully, be ready."
