Blackburn Rovers have resurrected a deal to sign striker Duncan McGuire in an unbelievable turn of events and are set to add Liverpool centre-back Billy Koumetio to their squad on loan.
The forward flew to the UK on Wednesday after Rovers agreed a fee with Orlando City for his signature. However, that deal fell through due to finances with Adam Wharton's move to Crystal Palace stalling.
The teenage midfielder has signed his contract with the Premier League club and so that move is complete, just pending official announcement.
McGuire was in Sheffield on Thursday morning with the Owls favourite for his signature. However, they had never reached a formal agreement with the Major League Soccer side despite holding talks.

The Lancashire Telegraph understands Rovers have now moved to reignite the deal, with a loan agreement struck. The deal includes a purchase option and the club will pay a loan fee.
The deal is by no means straightforward nor guaranteed. McGuire has not completed a medical but is on his way to Brockhall. There remains a lot of paperwork to be sorted before the 11pm deadline.
Koumetio is also set to sign to bolster Rovers' defence. The talented Liverpool defender is seen as cover for Hayden Carter, who is out for 10 weeks with a hamstring problem.
A midfielder has also not been ruled out but is the least likely of the three deals.
Signing McGuire would be a remarkable turn of events considering that the deal was both on track and then almost dead in the water, all in the space of 12 hours.
The signing of McGuire could grease the wheels for Niall Ennis to leave the club. There has also been loan interest in Harry Leonard and it seems likely one of them will leave for first-team football.
Jake Batty and Zak Gilsenan are now less likely to be loaned out, albeit that can change quickly with six hours of the window remaining.
