Sondre Tronstad was delighted to get his first Blackburn Rovers goal and hopes the team can take their confidence from beating Wrexham into the Championship.

Rovers were 4-1 winners to secure their passage into round five of the FA Cup. Tronstad netted his maiden Rovers goal in front of the Blackburn End to cap off the victory.

The midfielder has quickly become a fans' favourite at Ewood Park and his passionate celebration has further endeared him to supporters.

"I think you can see with the celebration how I felt, it was a bit over the top!" Tronstad joked after the full-time whistle.

"It was a relief, a good feeling. It's always nice to get your first goal for a new club. I've been waiting a few months for it and it felt good.

"I had a difficult start in the beginning but it was about working hard and listening to the gaffer about what he wanted from me.

"Now I've played almost every game and that's nice. I'm just trying to do the same to stay in the team."

It wasn't all plain sailing for Jon Dahl Tomasson's side, having fallen behind to Andy Cannon's 20th-minute strike. Rovers had spurned three big chances before Wrexham struck with their first.

That could've struck panic into the players and fan base but after a wobbly ten minutes, they regained their composure and quickly flipped the game on its head.

Tronstad was impressed with the character the team showed, especially after a tricky run of one win in 10 Championship games. With Queens Park Rangers up at Ewood Park on Saturday, he wants the team to take that momentum into the weekend.

"It gives us a good feeling. It can be tough when you drop down, I think we conceded the first goal but the reaction after was brilliant," he explained.

"We scored some great goals and played some great football. We looked more solid than we normally do.

"That gives us confidence and energy for the weekend. We just latched the last pass or it could have been six, or seven in the end. We spoke about when we're winning games, we have to control games better. It was League Two opposition but I think we did that really well.

"We scored quickly after their goal. We started quite well, we had big chances to score but they scored with their first chance. We showed a great reaction and the way we reacted was brilliant.

"It's important to have a game like today, the way we won the game, we showed character to win. It shows the fans that we are working hard for 90 minutes.

"It shows we are a team, it's not about individuals, it's about the team."

He added: "We could score even more goals, we created lots of chances. We've had games where we have conceded a lot of goals, mainly from set-pieces. We need to work on that, we're working hard in training to improve the defensive parts.

"It's very important, we've had issues so you have to do different things in training to improve. We have worked very hard to improve, not just defensively but with the ball to create more chances."

Tronstad set up the decisive goal for Sam Szmodics to make it 3-1. The top-scorer latched on to a lovely weighted pass to finish across the goalkeeper just before half-time.

Szmodics has made an impressive habit of timing his runs in-behind expertly. Although he doesn't play on the last shoulder, he's scored countless goals where he's run from deep and caught the defenders out.

"That's the difference compared to the other players I've played with before, I make the passes and they miss the target instead of scoring like Sam," Tronstad explained

"It's very difficult for the defenders to track the runs. If you take a touch and play it straight away like today he's through with the goalkeeper."
