Jon Dahl Tomasson left Adam Wharton out against Wrexham to protect him as speculation continues over his future.
Blackburn Rovers have rejected a bid from Crystal Palace for his services and talks have continued about a potential move to Selhurst Park.
Tomasson intimated that another bid hasn't been received yet but conceded there is still every chance the talented midfielder could leave the club.
The head coach seemed relaxed about the situation and decided to take Wharton out of the firing line with so much uncertainty around the teenager's immediate future.

"We know what I think about Adam, he is a great player and I enjoy working with him daily," he said.
"We know there are a lot of rumours. Adam is a great player, and maybe, one day an England player in time. There's a chance he could go away, that's football, that is life.
"We know our Rovers family are proud of Adam if he plays here or another club. Will that be tomorrow, in the summer or the next year? Let's wait and see.
"Everyone is ambitious, Adam enjoys playing our kind of football. If a player gets the opportunity to play Premier League football, it's not a difficult choice.
"What I said before, there was a bid and the club said no. That was a good choice. There are a few days left and hopefully, we'll get some signings in those days."
He added: "When all of these things are happening around a young man, we have to protect him.
"He's played a lot of minutes and it was a chance to give other players a chance."
Rovers are still hopeful of signing at least players themselves before Thursday's transfer deadline.
Nat Phillips and Jerry Yates are two players of interest, with the former more likely to be a Rovers player. Tomasson wouldn't comment on those names specifically but again reiterated what he wants before January ends.
"There are always rumours, that we are lacking proven goal-scorers at this level," he said.
"We are lacking numbers and experience. All things I told the club in the summer, it can't come as a surprise, our fans know it.
"I understand the financial situation and I respect it but we need to strengthen the squad."
