Blackburn Rovers remain hopeful of two signings to bolster Jon Dahl Tomasson's squad before Thursday's transfer deadline.

The head coach revealed on Friday that he'd like three new faces before the end of the January window and that remains possible with at least a couple of additions expected.

Centre-back has been an obvious priority for Rovers throughout January. Connor O'Riordan has signed from Crewe Alexandra but the club still want to add a more experienced member to their back line.

Nat Phillips remains a key target from Liverpool in what would be a loan deal. The 26-year-old spent the first half of the season at Celtic and is available to leave again.

Cardiff City are rivalling Rovers for his signature, with Phillips yet to decide on his preferred destination. If he chooses a move to Ewood Park, that deal could be wrapped up quickly.

Phillips has Championship experience with Bournemouth, helping them to earn promotion in 2022 after arriving in January. Should he choose to move elsewhere, Rovers have further targets they are confident of acquiring.

An attacker is also of interest before the window shuts. Jerry Yates has been a name that has been linked and it's understood there is interest in the former Blackpool striker.

Yates only joined Swansea City from the relegated Seasiders in the summer. That deal would only be plausible as a permanent transaction, with the Welsh club not interested in a loan.

That is unlikely to come to fruition unless Rovers sell a player. Sam Gallagher is expected to be in the squad against Wrexham but Ipswich Town have retained an interest. Rovers have a valuation for the striker, who has six months plus an option left on his contract, and have rejected multiple offers.

The Tractor Boys have just signed AFC Wimbledon striker Ali Al-Hamadi but could still sign another forward before the window shuts.

Equally, Crystal Palace are still in dialogue with the club over Adam Wharton. Rovers rejected the Eagles' first offer, reported to be worth £18.5million, but the Premier League side remain interested in a deal.

If Rovers were to sanction the sales of either player, it would change what they might be able to do in the final days of the window. The club are understood to be planning for all eventualities to ensure Tomasson's squad is as well supported as possible.

Niall Ennis' move to Bolton Wanderers remains in the balance. That deal is no longer imminent due to financials. However, it's not thought to be completely dead in the water.
