Blackburn Rovers have confirmed that captain Lewis Travis has joined Ipswich Town on loan for the remainder of the season.
The midfielder will link up with Kieran McKenna's automatic-promotion chasers until the summer after falling out of favour at Ewood Park.
Travis has completed 90 minutes once since the start of November and that was out of position at full-back. The 26-year-old hasn't started a Championship match in central midfield since October 1 against Leicester City.
Since then, the captain has been consigned to substitute appearances and filling in at full-back. He didn't start any of the four matches over the busy Christmas period despite Rovers' poor form.
It was a particular surprise not to see him start against Hull City or Rotherham United considering how lacklustre the performance on Boxing Day was.
Despite a lack of experience in the squad, Rovers have allowed one of their senior players, with just shy of 200 league appearances to his name, to join a fellow Championship side.
This undoubtedly cranks up the pressure in the January transfer window, with a new midfielder to add to the list. John Buckley has returned from Sheffield Wednesday but is expected to be out until March after having shoulder surgery.
Millwall bid 800K for Travis in the summer and there has been interest from other clubs too. Considering his lack of game time, The Lancashire Telegraph understands the Rovers captain has reluctantly agreed to a loan move.
On his exit, Tomasson said: "Trav came to the club in the summer and said that he wanted to go away.
"He didn't succeed in the summer and then he came back in October and said he wanted to go away. The reason are that he wanted to play every week in position six, defensive midfield.
"When a player wants to go away like that, that's the dynamic of football. He now has the opportunity to play at another club for a couple of months. Hopefully, he does really, really well."
