Hayden Carter is one yellow card away from a two-match suspension after collecting nine bookings this season.

The Blackburn Rovers defender is walking a fine tightrope to avoid another ban, having already missed a match this season. Carter was suspended for the away win at Norwich in November after picking up five yellows before the 19-game cut-off.

That has now passed and the next threshold is 10 yellow cards, which doesn't reset until after the 37th game of the season. That will be a home match against Plymouth Argyle on March 9.

So Carter now has nine games to get through without being booked or he'll be suspended for two matches. If he reaches 15 before the season concludes, he'll be banned for three games.

Only holding midfielders Ben Pearson (Stoke City) and Sam Morsy (Ipswich Town) have been shown a card more often than Carter. They are both on 10 and have served their bans. Dan Ballard Yannik Vestergaard and Sam Field are also walking the same trope as Carter. 

Lewis Travis is the next highest-carded Rovers player with seven to his name, albeit with now at Ipswich Town for the remainder of the season. Sam Szmodics has been booked six times whilst Adam Wharton is on five.

Tomasson is short of options at centre-back and losing Carter would be a further blow to his options. The head coach would ideally like to sign two in that position before January ends after James Hill was recalled.
