Vincent Kompany believes Burnley’s FA Cup trip to Tottenham is “the best possible draw”.

The Clarets head to London for a tricky assignment in the third round on Friday night but Kompany is happy that his players will come up against such a strong Premier League side.

He said: “I don’t make a big distinction between the fact that it’s an FA Cup game or a Premier League game. We have the opportunity to play against one of the best teams in England in the best league in the world, so that means a lot. Measuring ourselves against these teams is important.

“It’s the best possible draw, because you can have these kind of draws in the quarter-finals and you’re X amount of games in and you’ve played against League Two clubs, League One clubs.

“It’s better to have the outcome of these type of games early, for us. If you win the game, you can hope for a positive cup run. If you don’t win the game, then you move on back to the league. It’s the right draw at the right time.”

Kompany said he only expected to make one or two changes, although he will definitely be without Jordan Beyer, who was forced off injured against Aston Villa last Saturday, while Sander Berge is suspended following his red card in the 3-2 loss.

Burnley were left with a bitter taste having fought back to level with 10 men only for Villa to be awarded a controversial late penalty.

The result left the Clarets eight points adrift of safety, but Kompany insisted he has moved on, saying: “I function in a very simple way: bad day motivates me more, good day motivates me more.

“I’m just ready for the next game. I think, for the team, I see the work that they do and they’re spot on. We don’t have the results for it, though, and that’s the focus, just making sure we cross that line.”

On potential January additions, he added: “I sat down with the recruitment team and the chairman and we’re definitely looking at every possible option.

“But I can’t say much more than that, there’s nothing obvious at the moment that stands out that could drastically change our season. But, if there is, we’re doing our homework, we’re doing our research for sure.”

Two players who have been linked with possible exits are two of the stars of last year’s promotion-winning campaign, Manuel Benson and Anass Zaroury, both of whom have been on the periphery this season.

“It’s fair to say that both players haven’t featured too much this season but the discussions we’re having with them, we’re pretty clear,” said Kompany.

“We definitely believe in the players and I think the situation of Anass is not the situation of Benny, so we’re having those conversations individually.”
