Ben Brereton Diaz is reportedly close to sealing a loan move to Sheffield United six months on from his Rovers exit.
The Chile international left Ewood Park on a free transfer in the summer, signing a long-term deal with Villarreal.
He scored a brace on his final appearance at Millwall as Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side missed out on the play-offs by the slimmest of margins.
However, Brereton Diaz has been limited to a couple of starts in La Liga and is still waiting for his first competitive goal for the club.
Sheffield United find themselves at the foot of the Premier League table, having won just two games since the start of the campaign.
The Blades are seven points adrift following their 2-0 defeat against Manchester City at the Etihad last weekend.
Chris Wilder recently returned for a second spell in charge at Bramall Lane following Paul Heckingbottom’s departure.
Last month, Brereton Diaz told Mail Online: "(Villarreal) is an amazing club. It's a step up for myself, from playing in the Championship.
"I just need to keep working hard. I've played some games, played a couple in the Europa League and a few in the league.
"It's a great league, very competitive and I'm excited to keep learning.”
Sheffield United have also been linked with a move for ex-Leicester goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, who is currently playing for Anderlecht in Belgium, as they battle to beat the drop.
