Jon Dahl Tomasson admitted Blackburn Rovers 'needed' a two-goal lead to beat Rotherham United because of their vulnerability at set-pieces.

Rovers have won one of their last eight Championship games, conceding two more goals to take their tally to 48 for the season. Only Rotherham United have leaked more (50) this season and they're bottom of the division.

Against the Millers, Tomasson's side led twice but individual mistakes culminated in them dropping two points and continuing their poor record at Ewood Park.

Leopold Wahlstedt didn't cover himself in glory for the fourth game running, coming for a corner-kick and getting nowhere near it as Sean Morrison headed in. That's his fourth mistake in as many matches.

The equaliser from Tom Eaves was a ball into the box where Rovers didn't close down the crosser or mark the Millers striker well enough. Again, their soft underbelly was exposed.

Tomasson was pleased with the number of opportunities his chance created his side created, spurning multiple big chances in the first half, and admitted Rovers needed a two-goal cushion because of Rotherham's strengths from deadball situations.

"I think if you look at the performance, we probably deserve more. We're disappointed not to win the game," he said post-match.

"We knew we were playing a side fighting relegation, who just beat Middlesbrough and drew with Sunderland. We know what they're good at, second balls, chaos moments.

"Crosses into the box and defending in a low block which they've done really well. I was quite impressed with the amount of chances we created against a low block.

"We scored two great goals and created plenty of chances again. This team needs a 2-0 lead when you are playing a side that is good at set-pieces to be safe.

"We couldn't get a 2-0 lead and the goals we give away, we should do better. The second goal, we should've done better, we have to prevent the cross when we are two against one on the side and two against one in the box, we lose the duels.

"The amount of chances was a lot. The goalkeeper of the opponent was their best player, he was excellent.

"It's normal when you're a young team, a couple of players are playing this schedule for the first time in their life, they haven't played it before. This great Christmas schedule, December around New Year.

"It's new and you have to cope with it. Experienced players can always help the end of the game, in the dressing room and by coaching players on the pitch. That's an important part of it.
