Jon Dahl Tomasson was unhappy that Arnor Sigurdsson's goal was disallowed before Watford came from behind to take three points.

Blackburn Rovers were sucker-punched, leading 1-0 thanks to Adam Wharton's first goal of the season until the 80th minute. The Hornets then struck twice in the final 10 with substitutes Melita Rajovic and Rhys Healey scoring from close range.

Tomasson was pleased with the overall performance but frustrated with the officials for ruling out Sigurdsson's goal at 1-0. Harry Leonard was penalised for colliding with Ben Hamer and the ball was then turned in by the midfielder.

Rovers missed more chances to double their advantage, which the head coach acknowledged, but pointed to what he believes was the crucial moment in the match.

"It's a very hard result to take, it's unbelievable that we are standing here with nothing," Tomasson said. 

"We dominated the game for 70 minutes, we played some excellent football. The only criticism we can have is that we didn't kill off the game with the chances we had in both halves.

"The biggest moment of the game is where the goalkeeper for the opponent drops the ball. But the goal got disallowed, which is a huge moment. 2-0 up after 70 minutes, normall you win the game.

"The goalkeeper dropped the ball, the goalkeeper didn't have control over it. 2-0 is a big difference, especially when we have played so well against a very good team. We dominated for 70 minutes but the criticism is that we didn't kill the game.

"I am very disappointed to sit here without the win, for sure. I thought it was an excellent performance, great to have the fans behind us. Football can be cruel, and extremely cruel. That's the game."

Rovers have now conceded 18 goals in the final 15 minutes of Championship matches this season, the most in the division. Tomasson again put this down to the average age of his squad, with the oldest player at 28.

He refused to lay any blame directly at the door of goalkeeper Leopold Wahlstedt, who perhaps could've done better for the first and should've punched the corner kick further away which led to the winner.

"When you take off Dom Hyam, you're missing experienced players, nothing to do with James who came in," Tomasson said on the concession of two more late goals.

"We know that we need experience to help see the game out. We are the only club in Europe or the world where the oldest player is 28. 

"You have to remember the quality of the opponent but we could've done better, for sure. We win and lose the games as a team.

"When you concede goals it is about the quality of the opponent and what we can do better. We should've done better in those moments."
