“I have had it my whole career. I have been used in all sorts of different positions and it isn’t something I am new to.”
Callum Brittain has been somewhat of a jack of all trades at Rovers but returned to a more familiar right-back role against Bristol City.
The 25-year-old has been used in a number of different positions this season alone but insists he will always give his all for the team.
“I don’t mind putting a shift in for the boys,” he said. “I think I have played in every single position apart from goalkeeper and centre-back in a back four (during my career). I can’t say I have played well in all those positions though!
“Right-back is my best position, it is where I feel most natural – bombing up and down the wing, doing my defensive duties. It was nice to play there.”
Brittain played the full 90 minutes against the Robins as Rovers returned to winning ways in the Championship.
“It was definitely a hard one. We didn’t make it easy but we never do,” he smiled. “But we got the three points at the end of the day, we were clinical when we needed to be.
“We can be a lot better, and we have been in other games this year, but the main thing is we stuck together and got the three points.
“It is a good way to be. If you can get points when you are not playing well, you are going to be somewhere up there.
“At the moment we are a bit inconsistent, but we are working on it and we can take this into Saturday.”
It was an “important” three points for Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side following back-to-back defeats against Leeds and Sheffield Wednesday.
“That is the important thing, you need to bounce back,” Brittain explained. “The Sheffield Wednesday game was disappointing in different ways.
“Leeds are a very good side with a lot of quality and I think we matched them, we just didn’t show the quality in the final third that day.
“We came into this game and it was important. We didn’t play the best but we got the job done.”
The busy fixture list has been demanding on the Rovers squad, with injuries a common theme over the past few months.
“It was a bit heavy (on the legs) tonight, but I think it was for a lot of the boys. It is a really tough schedule and Saturday-Tuesdays aren’t the nicest,” the versatile defender admitted.
“We have got to travel to Southampton so we are going to have to recover well and do all the right things. But the boys show great spirit every week so we will go again.
“We just need to work on ourselves, keep putting performances in and stay in that pack. I think we will, we have played really well in games this year and played some teams off the park!
“We have got confidence but we need to keep going and get that cutting edge right. We have had it in some games and it has been missing in others, but I think we are in a good place.”
Sondre Tronstad has received plaudits for his performances of late, and Brittain had nothing but positive things to say about the midfielder.
“He is massive, I think he compliments Adam (Wharton) really well. He lets Adam have the freedom to do what he does,” he stated.
“He is a great person, he didn’t get his head down when it wasn’t happening for him at the beginning of the season. He worked hard, got to know all the boys and I think he is really enjoying it now.
“He helps us out massively. He does all the dirty work but he has got quality on the ball as well. I am really happy for Sonny.”
