Blackburn Rovers face a tough assignment this weekend, with the Championship's in-form team coming to Ewood Park.
The Whites have taken 25 points from their last 10 Championship games, more than anyone else in the division. Rovers have 18 in that same time frame in what has been an improved points return for Jon Dahl Tomasson's side.
Although they may not lead the table, or even be top two, Daniel Farke's side are operating like a team capable of automatic promotion. Rovers have already run Ipswich Town close and were in the game against Leicester City until very late on.
So, how do they go one better and take something this weekend? We spoke to the Yorkshire Evening Post's Leeds writer, Joe Donnonhue, to get the lowdown.

Leeds' form has been fantastic since the end of the transfer window, how much has a settled squad helped Farke?
- The summer was far from ideal for Leeds, or Farke. He said as much during and after the window closed, with so many outgoings and needing to perform major surgery on the squad. They managed it, though, and we're beginning to see the makings of a really settled, united group in the way they play. Farke says he likes it when he can spot a manager's handwriting and it's fair to say you can see his influence on this team.
The front four of Leeds have been pretty devastating this season, particularly Summerville. Is he the man for Rovers to watch or do you then run the risk of getting punched by one of the others?
- You'd have to say, yes. Summerville is the dangerman because he's so flighty, tricky to mark, deceptively strong in possession and has added end product to what was already a threatening skillset. That's not to say if he's nullified then Rovers' problems are solved. Georginio Rutter has been the team's best creator this season from the No. 9 starting position, while Joel Piroe can fly under the radar in games before popping up with a late run into the box or a goal from the edge of the penalty area. Dan James, too, has been in excellent form and a transitional game will suit him.
Farke has not been afraid to phase out some of the old guard, Luke Ayling for example. How has that gone down with Leeds fans?
- Farke has managed a potentially difficult situation pretty well, freshening up the team whilst paying the likes of Ayling, Liam Cooper and Patrick Bamford lip service in press conferences, singing their praises and highlighting their influence off the field. Leeds fans are largely on board with it, given how well the team are playing without them.
What's the injury situation ahead of the weekend?
- It's not too bad, all things considered. Junior Firpo and Stuart Dallas will definitely miss out but the former has only played three times this season and isn't a huge miss with Sam Byram in the team in his place, while Dallas hasn't featured since the spring of 2022 after fracturing his femur. Joe Gelhardt had a bit of a hip issue last week so missed out, but he should be available, as should Summerville. Luke Ayling will be checked on with knee injury.
Although Leeds have been fantastic, they are still susceptible to conceding a few, as we saw against Boro. Set-pieces seem to have been a particular Achilles heel?
- They have conceded a few in games where teams have come at them, like the Boro game, against Norwich and Ipswich at the beginning of the season. That said, they've mostly been during the first halves of games - Leeds have only allowed six goals during second halves across the entire campaign.
Do you think Leeds will try and dominate possession or does playing on the counter suit them away from home?
- Leeds will look to control most of the ball, but not in the way a Southampton might, for example. They're one of the best teams on the counter in the division - if not the best - and I'd expect them to utilise that with the likes of Summerville and James.
Where do you think the key match-ups will be across the pitch?
- As above, it's likely to be full-backs versus wingers but I'm curious to see how Leeds track Szmodics' runs and whether that'll be one of the centre-halves stepping up to keep tabs on him, or Ethan Ampadu dropping a little deeper. It should make for a really interesting game, tactically.
Score prediction?
- 2-2 - Leeds' away form has been hit-and-miss and I feel like the week-long break between fixtures, coupled with two potent, in-form teams has the makings of a high-scoring game.
