Harry Pickering has signed a new contract at Blackburn Rovers which will run until 2027 with the option of an extra 12 months.

The Lancashire Telegraph revealed this week that talks with the left-back were at an advanced stage and he has now put pen-to-paper on fresh terms. The club are also keen to get Dom Hyam signed to a new contract with his deal also expiring in 2025.

Pickering signed from Crewe Alexandra in January 2021, signing a three-and-a-half-year deal which took him until 2025. With 18 months left to go, Gregg Broughton has ensured the 24-year-old is now tied down for the foreseeable future.

He has started 16 of Rovers' 19 Championship matches this season and featured 40 times last season. He has been an automatic pick under Tomasson and has established himself as a consistent Championship defender.

Pickering could make his 100th Blackburn Rovers appearance this weekend against Leeds United, which would also be his 250th senior game.

"I am buzzing to get it done," Pickering told RoversTV. "I have enjoyed my time here so far and I'm looking forward to a few more years here.

"Every since I have come, I've enjoyed being here. The club is brilliant and obviously the staff, the players and the fans are brilliant. I have enjoyed my time and when there was talk of a new contract, I definitely wanted to get it signed.

"I think everyone has been so welcoming, the staff made me feel welcome from the day one, the players as well. We have a good group of lads and even those that have left now, they made me feel welcome. It was a no-brainer.

"It was an easy decision coming from League Two, League One. To make the step up to the Championship was big for me and I've played a lot of games in my time here. The aim is to keep going and keep improving.

"I do think I've improved a lot. When I first came, I was trying to improve and adjust to the level. I wanted to get as many games as possible and I did that. I definitely think I have become a better player.

"I didn't know what to expect when I first came, the aim was to play as many games as possible. Luckily I've done that, I've stayed fit and I will keep trying to play as well as possible."

On signing Pickering to a new contract, Director of Football Gregg Broughton said: “Harry has played over 250 senior games, almost 100 of which are for Blackburn Rovers, by the age of 24.

“His tactical flexibility has made him a vital part of our team and he has shown a continued desire to improve on a daily basis. Well done Harry on a thoroughly deserved new contract.”
