Sam Szmodics has explained why he shushed the Sheffield Wednesday crowd after scoring Blackburn Rovers' equaliser.

The Championship's leading scorer netted his 14th of the season in the second half, heading James Hill's back-post header into the bottom corner. Szmodics then proceeded to put his fingers to the lips towards the home crowd.

Wednesday ultimately went on to win the match, giving Owls fans the last laugh online. Szmodics explained why the goal celebration post-match, saying that he received a lot of boos and abuse during the game to his surprise.

"I was getting a load of hate and some boos from their fans and I'm not really sure why," Szmodics told RoversTV. "They said I was diving but they're a physical team.

"We're a small, technical team that flick balls around the corner, we get fouls. They're a loud bunch, they're a good following and it was enjoyable to score.

"We get back into the game and things happen where you can lose through no fault of your own. It's my first time at Hillsborough and it's a massive stadium, crowd get behind them and it's a tough place to go as an opposition player."
