John Buckley is ineligible to feature for Sheffield Wednesday against Blackburn Rovers as per his loan agreement.

The midfielder has been in and out of the Owls starting XI under new boss Danny Rohl and won't be lining up to face his parent club at the weekend, the Wednesday manager confirmed.

Buckley was a second-half substitute in Wednesday's 1-1 draw against Leicester City on Wednesday night. The 24-year-old was returning to the squad having missed the 2-1 defeat to Birmingham City at the weekend due to family reasons.

Buckley has made 11 appearances for the Yorkshire club in all competitions but has struggled to build on five starts since Rohl replaced Xisco Munoz as the Hillsborough manager.

Rovers have the option to recall Buckley in January, one they may take up given their own injury problems. They have only lost Joe Rankin-Costello from their midfield options but given the lack of experience on their bench at the moment, Jon Dahl Tomasson may want to bolster his options.

When asked by The Lancashire Telegraph about a potential return for Buckley, he said: "It's very early days, the January market is not open yet. We have contact with John.

"I always have one of the staff, Damien Johnson, who takes control of that. We are analysing John's games when he is starting and when he is coming from the bench.

"I have a personal contact with him in that way. It's the same whenever you loan players out, the same with Jack (Vale) at Lincoln.

"You always need to have that connection with the player, to give them a good feeling and to see if he's doing well, is he doing what he wants?

"For John, it is a difficult situation at Sheffield Wednesday. It's a difficult situation for Sheffield Wednesday as a club."
