Here's how The Lancashire Telegraph scored the players' performances, with a six representing par for the course.
Leopold Walhstedt - 6
Could've done better for the Chelsea opener after a tamely palming away Gallagher's cross straight into the path of Badiashile. Made routine saves outside of that and did well with the ball at his feet.
Callum Brittain - 7
Did well against the very lively Sterling. Could've earned Rovers a penalty but the referee waved away the strong claims. Will be disappointed with a loose pass that cost the second goal but an otherwise strong display.
James Hill - 8
A man mountain in defence. He showed all the characteristics of a player capable of playing at this level consistently. Quick, strong and a great ability to read the game.
Hayden Carter - 7
Moved to the left side of defence and looked assured against the lively Jackson. Composed playing out from the back.
Harry Pickering - 6
Had a tough time against the tricky Palmer and then Sterling. Did well to manage an early caution.
Adam Wharton - 7
Started very brightly and then faded as Chelsea asserted themselves. Showed glimpses of why some think he can play at this level in the future.
Lewis Travis - 7
A battling performance from the captain, who didn't stop running. Good to have him back available.
Jake Garrett - 6
Pressed hard but didn't see a lot of the ball. Headed over the bar with a decent chance in the final stages.
Dilan Markanday - 6
A few nice pieces of footwork down the right wing but largely shackled by Cucurella.
Andrew Moran - 6
Worked diligently to track James and tried to pose a threat going the other way. Didn't see lots of the ball.
Harry Leonard - 7
Held the ball up well and battled against two big centre-backs. Will be disappointed not to get his one real effort on goal on target.
Substitutes:
Scott Wharton (Carter, 60') - 6
Did well after coming on. Could've had a penalty after a shove in the back in the box.
Tyrhys Dolan (Markanday, 60') - 6
Tried to make things happen from the right.
Arnor Sigurdsson (Moran, 74') - 6
Game had gone by the time he came on.
Niall Ennis (Leonard, 74') - 6
Worked hard but chances on goal.
Unused substitutes: Hilton, Gamble, Batty, Tronstad, Rankin-Costello.
Referee: Tim Robinson
Attendance: 39,548
