Jon Dahl Tomasson has called on his Blackburn Rovers players to rise to the challenge set by Chelsea and cause a cup upset.

Rovers travel to Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night in a highly-anticipated match for the travelling fans. The team will be well backed with over 3,000 supporters making their way to the Capital.

Tomasson's side enjoyed fantastic nights in the cup competitions last year, beating West Ham United on penalties and then Leicester City in the FA Cup.

Whilst Chelsea are obvious favourites to make it into round five. Tomasson wants his players to embrace the occasion and show their quality against top-level opposition.

"Chelsea is an excellent game for us," he said. "We have players who need a chance, players who need a bit of rest. It's a great opportunity for those players who will play. 

"We always use the squad for those cup games. Now they get a chance in London, away against Chelsea, with the backing of over 3,000 Rovers fans.

"What a day. It's one of those games where everyone thinks we’ll lose, but if we do win, it’s one of those magic moments. There is always a chance of winning, we want to try and create a moment like last year where we were giant-killers against West Ham and Leicester.

"It's a good opportunity to try and challenge. It's the millionaires of the Premier League versus the young guns of the Championship. It's great for me to see who can cope with the challenge, to cope with the stadium, to cope with the speed of the game.

"Whatever team I put out there, they always try their best for Rovers and they want to win it. We have won three games in the cup and imagine if we could get to a quarter-final."

Tomasson is hoping that Rovers can catch Chelsea cold with Mauricio Pochettino set to rotate some of his squad, though he insisted he'd name his 'best team' during his pre-match press conference.

It will be a difficult task for Rovers but Tomasson is positive that they can make things awkward for Chelsea if they do the right things in and out of possession

"You always want to play against the best teams in the world in the best stadiums in Europe," he said. "I know they probably have three good starting lineups they could put out but football is made up of a lot of things and hopefully the players they put out will be less motivated.

"If we do all the right things we can make it a really tough day at the office for Chelsea.

"To have a good chance of winning, it’s about doing the right things on and off the ball, we have to be brave on the ball while defending with discipline. It's a mix of both things.

"At same time we shouldn’t forget to enjoy it. We have over 3,000 fans backing us, they’re travelling there on a Wednesday night so it’d be great to make it one of those magic cup moments again."
