Here's how The Lancashire Telegraph scored the players' performances, with a six representing par for the course.
Leopold Wahlstedt
Made a fantastic save to keep out Tanner's powerful shot inside the box and he celebrated it like a goal. Hadn't been tested until then. Good distribution under pressure on a few occasions. 8
James Hill
Solid against at right-back. Gives Rovers extra height and defensive security. One goal conceded in three since he came into the side. 7
Hayden Carter
Tried to bring the ball from the back to create an opening. Dealt with Ugbo and then Meite well. 7

Dom Hyam
Solid as usual from the stand-in captain. Was rarely troubled. 7
Harry Pickering
Inverted and played very central when Rovers had the ball meaning there wasn't always much width on the left. Solid at the back. 7
Sondre Tronstad
Good distribution in front of the back four and won the ball back on a few occasions. Has looked solid since coming into the team. 7
Joe Rankin-Costello
Turned out to be the match-winner with his first of the season. Could've added a second too but took too long to finish. Looks at home in central midfield and provides a threat in the final third. 8
Sam Szmodics
Couldn't get himself into a goal-scoring opportunity. Quiet by his very high standards this season. 6
Callum Brittain
Lively in a more advanced role down the right. If anything was going to happen you felt he and Rankin-Costello would be involved. 8
Arnor Sigurdsson
A very quiet day for the Icelandic interntional, who just couldn't get himself in the match. 6
Tyrhys Dolan
Brilliant control and pass to set up the goal for Rankin-Costello. Struggled to get too involved against Cardiff's big defenders but produced the moment of quality in the game. 7
Substitutes:
Niall Ennis (Sigurdsson, 65')
Held the ball up and got another valuable half an hour in the tank. 6
Lewis Travis (Rankin-Costello, 78')
Added some extra defensive security in midfield. N/A
Unused substitutes: Hilton, Gamble, Atcheson, Garrett, A.Wharton, Markanday, Telalovic
Referee: Bobby Madley
Attendance: 13,572
