Bradley Dack could miss out on a return to Ewood Park with Sunderland on Wednesday night due to injury.

Dack left Blackburn Rovers in the summer as a free agent after the club opted not to renew his deal or trigger the one-year option in his contract. It was decided that a fresh start would be best for all parties and he reunite dwith Tony Mowbray at Sunderland.

The 29-year-old remains a huge fans' favourite at Ewood Park and will no doubt get a warm reception if he is involved. However, that's in doubt due to a hamstring injury.

Dack missed Saturday's 3-1 win over Queens Park Rangers with the knock. Mowbray revealed he could have played in the game but they opted not to risky him.

“Bradley Dack, it’s not a bad one," Mowbray said. He’s got a slight hamstring niggle, it’s not a strain. He’s hoping to be ready for Wednesday, let’s wait and see.

"We could have brought him but we didn't think that was worth taking that risk today, so he's got a very good chance for the Blackburn game. He’ll have to at least train on Tuesday if he’s to have a chance of playing on Wednesday night.”

Sunderland are also swetting of the fitness of influential midfielder Pierre Ekwah, who was forced off at Loftus Road. The midfielder picked up a dead leg and will be assessed ahead of Wednesday's clash.

Defender Dennis Cirkin is definite ruled out though. He's facing a few weeks on the sidelines with a hamstring issue.

"Pierre hasn't trained much this week, he'd been struggling with a dead leg," Mowbray said.

"He trained on Friday and so we thought he would get through the game because it wasn't a strain or a tear, it's just a bang he took on the thigh. 

"The problem was he got a bang in exactly the same place a couple of minutes in, he tried to run it off but he couldn't so we just got him off.

We'll get some heat on it, give it a massage and hopefully it'll be alright for Wednesday.

On Cirkin, he addd: "Dennis is a different kettle of fish, he's got a hamstring strain and is going to miss a couple of weeks at least and probably a touch more. That's a blow to us of course, but Niall [Huggins] came in today and did very well for us.

"We just felt that with the way the game was going, the heat and that they had ten men, we could get Roberts on for that bit of creativity."
