Jon Dahl Tomasson hopes Rovers can get further deals over the line before the deadline on Friday night.

The club brought in Andrew Moran on a season-long loan from Brighton over the weekend, becoming the fifth new addition at Ewood Park this summer.

However, the squad is still stretched after a number of outgoings and Tomasson insists they need more cover to cope with the physical demands of the Championship season.

When asked if there would be any more deals, the boss replied: “To be honest, I don’t know. I am the head coach, it is out of my hands.

“It is an uncertain period for Rovers and a challenging period for the club. When I arrived here, it was a different project.

“But we all know it is a difficult time. That is why I am extremely happy to see the way the team has shown spirit and togetherness.

“The staff in our building, they are behind the team and helping in every sense. Hopefully, we get some help. The only thing I can say to the club is the players need help because it is a tough season.”

Pat Gamble and Tom Bloxham made the bench for the first time in the league against the Hornets, and Tomasson hopes they will benefit from being around the first team.

One of the club’s main goals for the coming season is to develop youngsters, but the boss says there is still plenty of ambition in the dressing room.

“We all know that nine players went away,” he continued. “Of course, our CEO Steve Waggott spoke about experience.

“We lost a lot of experience, we lost proven goalscorers with Dack and Diaz - 23 goals between them (last season).

“He also spoke about this great league, you need a lot of numbers to be able to manage it. I think Steve was very realistic when he spoke a little bit about expectation.

“First of all, it is about staying in the league and then developing the young players. Personally, I am ambitious.

“My lads are ambitious and the fans are ambitious. Hopefully, they will get some more players in because the oldest player in my squad at the moment is 28 years old.”

Saturday’s win at Watford was the first of three successive away fixtures for the Rovers squad before the international break.

“We have an extremely interesting week,” Tomasson stated.

“We started in London, we travel back with our new coach and play on Wednesday against Harrogate. Then we will travel to Plymouth with the coach for the game on Saturday.

“It is going to be interesting how my young boys can cope with a week like this but we are looking forward to all those games. I love those cup games.”
