Jon Dahl Tomasson remains hopeful there will be further additions to his Rovers squad before the end of the window.

Rovers brought in Niall Ennis, Sondre Tronstad and Arnor Sigurdsson on free transfers earlier this summer.

The club also signed goalkeeper Leo Wahlstedt from Norwegian club Odds BK earlier this month following the departures of Thomas Kaminski and Ash Phillips to Luton Town and Tottenham Hotspur respectively.

Wahlstedt was named on the bench for the first time during the 2-2 draw against Rotherham last weekend after receiving international clearance.

After the match, Tomasson admitted he isn’t sure what lies ahead on the transfer front but hopes the club can get some more bodies in to help cope with the physical demands of the Championship season.

When asked if anything was close, he said: “I don’t know, to be honest. A couple of players went out and some money came in.

“Our CEO (Steve Waggott) - I wouldn’t say promised - but he was talking about three or four new players last week so I would expect there will be players coming in.”

Ennis made a positive impact off the bench against the Millers. He was also on target against Walsall in the Carabao Cup last week.

The forward, who scored 14 goals as Plymouth clinched the League One title last season, has been building up his fitness in recent weeks.

“Niall played a great game against Walsall the other day,” Tomasson continued. “We all know he is coming from behind.

“He came into the building with a lot of issues. He has been working hard with the medical staff and I think he did a good job again (against Rotherham).”

Referee Robert Madley handed out eight yellow cards in total at the weekend, including bookings for Rotherham boss Matt Taylor and assistant Wayne Carlisle, but only Sam Szmodics was cautioned for Rovers.

Tomasson was pleased his young side managed to keep their cool despite a feisty atmosphere in the second half.

He added: “I want to see the ball in play for a long time so if you get an unnecessary yellow card, what will happen?

“The ball is not in play, the momentum is killed and the fans are not seeing football, they are seeing yellow cards. That is not what I want.”

The Rovers boss was also happy to see Szmodics’ first goal come from a well-worked short corner and reckons they can be a useful weapon over the coming season.

“We create a lot of chances with those short corners,” Tomasson stated. “We know we don’t have the tallest team, there is nothing wrong with that but it is a fact. It was great to get a goal like that.”

Rovers are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they welcome Hull City to Ewood Park (3pm). The Yorkshire club ran out 4-2 winners against newly-promoted Sheffield Wednesday in their last outing.
