Sam Gallagher could return to the Rovers squad for this weekend’s trip to Rotherham United.
Gallagher missed the recent victories against West Brom and Walsall after picking up a knock in training.
The 27-year-old forward scored eight goals in all competitions last season.
New signing Leo Wahlstedt is also available for selection against Rotherham after receiving his international clearance.
The Swedish shot stopper arrived at Ewood Park earlier this week from Norwegian club Odds BK on a three-year deal.
Joe Rankin-Costello is fine despite coming off against West Brom on the opening day, but Arnor Sigurdsson and Jack Vale remain sidelined.
“Leo can be involved if I make that choice to bring him into the group,” said Jon Dahl Tomasson.
“Joe, who went off, he is okay. Jack and Arnor are still injured. Big Sam Gallagher has been training a bit this week so he will also be in and around the team. In that way it is looking good.
“I am really excited about the game against Rotherham, to see how this young group can cope with their first away game and if they can play the same way as we did at our fortress Ewood.
“To play with the same intensity and mindset of attacking football is going to be a good challenge. We all know Rotherham are a team who play in a certain way.
“They are very good at winning seconds balls and extremely good at putting crosses into our box. Set-plays are something we need to deal with.”
Despite being away from home, Tomasson is keen to be positive and dictate the play against the Millers.
“I want the ball as much as possible,” he added. “If we don’t have it, I want to win it back immediately.
“I think we are doing that. If you look at Walsall, we gave too many chances away because our balance was not good enough.
“But I like to entertain and we want to be dominant with and without the ball, playing a fluid and modern way.
“I think we have an identity within the club now after working on principles for more than a year now. We have created a lot of chances. I would rather win 5-4 than win 1-0!”
