Rovers have completed the signing of Swedish goalkeeper Leopold Wahlstedt on a three-year deal.
The highly-rated shot stopper arrives from Norwegian club Odds BK for an undisclosed fee, strengthening Jon Dah Tomasson's goalkeeping department following Thomas Kaminski’s move to Premier League newcomers Luton Town.
Wahlstedt was in attendance at Ewood Park over the weekend as Rovers kicked off the new Championship campaign with a 2-1 victory against West Brom thanks to goals from Dilan Markanday and Harry Leonard.
The 24-year-old began his career in his home country with Dalkurd FF before making the move to Arendal.
He joined Odds BK ahead of the 2021 season and kept eight clean sheets in 17 games this term – more than any other goalkeeper in the Norwegian top flight.
Wahlstedt has also been capped for the Swedish national team, making his senior debut in a 2-0 victory against Finland earlier this year.
The shot stopper becomes Rovers' fourth signing of the summer after Niall Ennis, Sondre Tronstad and Arnor Sigurdsson arrived in East Lancashire, although those deals were all free transfers.
He will wear the number 12 shirt at Ewood Park and will be available for selection “once international clearance and visa requirements have been approved”.
Director of football Gregg Broughton said: “We are delighted to welcome Leo to Blackburn Rovers.
“We have monitored his progress over the past 12 months and, in addition to his excellent shot-stopping, Leo's ability to play out from the back is at a very high level.
“Succession planning is a straightforward exercise in theory, but in real life is reliant upon timing factors that are often out of your control.
“We are grateful that, following Thomas Kaminski’s departure, we were able to put our plan into place and sign a goalkeeper with such high potential.”
