Former Rovers loanee Sorba Thomas admits that last season was “a learning curve”.
Thomas spent the second half of the campaign at Ewood Park after joining on loan from Huddersfield, making 17 appearances in total.
However, he failed to nail down a spot in Jon Dahl Tomasson’s starting line-up as Rovers missed out on a play-off spot by the slimmest of margins.
The Welsh international is gearing up for the new season at Huddersfield and is keen to show what he can do.
“I feel like last season was a bit of a learning curve for me,” Thomas told Yorkshire Live. “Obviously, every player in the world has their tough seasons.
“For me, it is about not focusing on what I’m hearing elsewhere but just focusing on what I believe in and what I know I can bring to the team on the pitch. It is about keeping on believing in myself and believing in my self-worth.
“I don’t really want to listen to other people and I feel like Neil Warnock is the right guy. He’s been around the game and dealt with guys with massive egos.
“I am just all about learning and trying to better myself, and you never know what can happen really.”
Thomas is enjoying working with Neil Warnock, who helped the Terriers pull off a great escape last term while he was out on loan.
Warnock initially joined Huddersfield on a short-term deal but opted to sign a one-year extension over the summer.
“He tries to be a bit strict with me at times but we all know what he’s like,” Thomas added.
“Off-season, he has been talking to me and showing how much he rates me as a player. It is only a bonus for me really.
“Him and Ronnie (Jepson), I’ve got a good relationship with both of them now and it is just about showing him why he should put me in the team week, in week out.
“He has kind of told me, ‘just believe in yourself more’. It is kind of the same thing – focusing on myself and helping the team however I can.”
Huddersfield kick-off the new campaign with the long trip to Home Park to face Plymouth, who clinched the League One title last season after passing the impressive 100-point milestone.
The winger says the squad is raring to go and hopes they can have a much more positive start this time around.
“Everyone is hungry and motivated,” he stated. “We have come back faster than we were last year, stronger, quicker and for us it is about learning from each other.
“There is a new gaffer, a new style of playing for us and it is just about focusing on ourselves.
“We don’t need to put unnecessary pressure on ourselves, we just focus on us and who knows what can happen.”
