Jon Dahl Tomasson says the situation at Rovers is “very unclear” ahead of the upcoming Championship season.

Earlier this week, Tomasson’s position was cast in doubt amid reports in the national media that claimed the club’s budget had been impacted by government restrictions in India.

When asked about his future, Tomasson told The Lancashire Telegraph: “As you know, we have a new situation at the club and it is very unclear.

“I think we need to wait and see, and it is of course out of my hands in a way with the financial things.

“The fans are the backbone of the club and I would love to be able to tell them more, but I can’t because it is above my head.”

Tomasson was speaking after the goalless draw against Fleetwood Town at the Highbury Stadium.

Sam Gallagher and Callum Brittain went closest for Rovers, who were unable to break the deadlock against Scott Brown’s side.

“The first half was not good. We played too slowly and too many players wanted to pick up the ball,” Tomasson added.

“We played sideways instead of forwards. I thought the second half was much better.

“We got in the right positions, played quicker, created chances, played forwards and should probably have scored a couple of goals.

“We got 90 minutes in the legs for this part of the group. Tomorrow (against Barnsley) will be another and we will try to give 90 minutes to as many as possible.”
