Jon Dahl Tomasson has confirmed that Ben Brereton’s match-winning double at Millwall was his final act in a Rovers shirt.
Brereton scored twice in the second half, taking his tally for the season to 16, as Rovers roared back to win 4-3 at The Den.
Ultimately it wasn’t enough as Rovers missed out on the top six by goal difference to Sunderland following their win at Preston North End.
It meant that Brereton’s final act in a Rovers shirt was his 88th minute winner, which took him to 47 for the club in 177 games since joining from Nottingham Forest in 2018.
He is expected to join Villarreal on a long-term deal, with his Rovers contract expiring next month, bringing an end to his five years at Ewood Park.
“Yeah, it was the final,” Tomasson said of Brereton’s future.
“I’m very happy he ends in this way because we know Ben has done really, really well for the club.
“He has had a lot of games where he hasn’t scored at the end so I was happy for the boy that he ended how he did with goals and the way he played.
“He's a brilliant lad, he's always been thinking about Rovers in the last period. I was extremely pleased that he ended the game like he did.”
