Jon Dahl Tomasson says Rovers have a number of ‘question marks’ over the fitness of players ahead of tomorrow’s game with Coventry City.
Tomasson was staying tight-lipped over their identity, but one player is understood to be Harry Pickering after the left back limped through the closing stages of the 0-0 draw with Hull City at the weekend.
The head coach also revealed that Tayo Edun, who would have been an option at left back, also sustained a head injury when in action for the Under-21s against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
There was positive news in that Daniel Ayala returned to training today having been out since the win over Blackpool on February 21.
The defender could yet play a part in the season, with his task now being to get up to speed.
“It was his first time out on the grass, it was to see him,” Tomasson said.
“He has been out for a while but he could still be important this season.
“He needs to get up to speed and he will not be ready (for Coventry).
"Tayo is not 100 per cent and then I have question marks that I will decide over that, and that's the only thing I will give you."
John Buckley and Jack Vale are longer-term absentees, with the midfielder out for the season, while Vale is touch and go as to whether he plays again in 2022/23.
Bradley Dack has missed the last three matches through injury, having previously missed a month of action before returning against Birmingham City earlier this month.
Tomasson confirmed that he was one player who there was a question mark over, with a decision to be taken over his involvement against the Sky Blues.
He said: "It's a good question, he's one of the question marks regarding his fitness."
Harry Leonard will be hoping to keep his place in the squad having come off the bench in the last two matches, going close to a first senior goal in both.
However, Tomasson doesn’t feel the striker is ready to feature from the start.
“I think he’s developed during the season on the training pitch and he should keep on developing, he needs that,” he said.
“It’s a difficult position to play in, he almost scored at Huddersfield away, could have scored two with a bit of luck, and it’s very positive and if you keep on doing the right things, with the same attitude and mentality of becoming better then I see a very bright future for him.”
On whether he is ready to start, he said: “No, I don’t think so.
“Of course it can sometimes be difficult for people to understand that there’s a big gap between Under-21s games, but let me say I’m extremely pleased with his performance and development.
“There’s a big difference coming from the bench and starting games, when players are becoming tired
“He’s a young lad and we shouldn’t put too much pressure on him in that way.
“I know everyone wants to see him because it’s great and I’m extremely pleased for those players who have made their debuts and he’s of course one of them.”
