Rovers player ratings from the 0-0 draw with Hull City at Ewood Park
Aynsley Pears 6
Shovelled a Slater shot around the post in the first half in what was his only real save of the match. Had a moment of miscommunication with Hyam in the second half, and doesn’t look that comfortable outside of his box.
Joe Rankin-Costello 7
Had to provide the width on the right which meant less of a roaming role and limited his impact. Sliced a shot wide in the first half where he played Gallagher in with an excellent pass. Tired before being replaced late on.
Hayden Carter 6
Booked following a sloppy touch in the second half but played on the front foot for much of the game, with three interceptions, to keep Rovers moving forward.
Dom Hyam 6
Twice gave the ball away in dangerous areas in the first half, and also had a mix-up with Pears in the second. Hasn’t looked as secure since the international break.
Harry Pickering 6
Picked the right pass to help Rovers build from the back, and delivered some good balls into the box without success. Finished the game on one leg, leaving Rovers to assess a possible injury.
Lewis Travis 6
Turned down several shooting opportunities, including one when played clean through by Gallagher early on. Often found himself in advanced positions but was reluctant to make the most of them.
Tyler Morton 7
A perfect game for him, able to drop deep and dictate the play with little pressure on him. While his set pieces were a disappointing, he did see a rasping drive blocked. Covered plenty of ground to help stop potential counter-attacking opportunities.
Sam Szmodics 7
Looked the most likely at times to make something happen as he looked to break the lines, but Rovers couldn’t get him involved in the game as he would have liked.
Sam Gallagher 6
Started from the right, but it was from a central position where he had his best opportunity, though failed to bring down a Rankin-Costello pass. Linked up with Travis to create an early chance, but failed to manage an attempt on goal before being replaced after taking a knock to his ankle.
Tyrhys Dolan 6
Missed Rovers’ best chance when side-footing wide from inside the box. Curled an effort goalwards that was easy for Darlow moments before. Dropped deep to get involved in the play, but lacked the clinical finish in the final third when Rovers needed it most.
Ben Brereton 6
Didn’t move too freely and was replaced late on despite Rovers’ search for a goal. Created the best opening of the game for Dolan but wasn’t always reliable in possession.
