Jon Dahl Tomasson felt Rovers lacked quality at the vital moment as they were held to a goalless draw by Hull City at Ewood Park.

The point moved Rovers back into the play-off spots, with five games remaining, but it was another missed opportunity in their quest to cement a top six finish.

Tyrhys Dolan wasted Rovers’ best chance in the first half, but a sloppy start to the second half gave encouragement to the visitors who went close through Allahyar Sayyadmanesh.

It ultimately proved to be another frustrating game for Rovers who have now failed to win any of their four games since the international break.

“It was not a result we wanted, not at all,” Tomasson said.

“I think if you look at the game, we did enough to win it but we lost quality in our finishing.

“We took too many touches instead of just shooting at the goal.

“The decision-making in the last third (was poor).

“A point can be important in the long run, we shouldn't forget that.

“It wasn't the same level performance as Huddersfield, we played better against Huddersfield.

“We did enough to win it but we lacked quality in the decision-making and finishing.

“That is why it's a draw and not a win.

“We are disappointed with the draw but, at this stage, each point can be important.

“I must admit, with five games to go, we are still in the play-offs and if we'd been told that at the start of the season everyone would have taken that, and with two good runs in the cups as well.”

Rovers turned down several good shooting opportunities in the second half, and failed to make the most of their territory as they camped themselves in the Tigers territory.

On how they improve on that, Tomasson said: “First of all it’s about being in the right spot.

“That’s a start.

“Then the chances to score goals are bigger.

“We were maybe lacking that because we had plenty of players in the box, and at that stage you need to make the right choices on the ball and that’s a split second.

“They had a lot of bodies in the box, we all saw that.”

The pressure increased on Rovers ahead of the game having dropped outside of the top six for the first time since October given the scores in the 3pm matches.

Asked if they felt that pressure, Tomasson said: “Yeah, but each player is not used to this situation, we need to be honest about that.

“It's a new situation and players who have been around the play-offs for a longer period or have gone to the Premier League, they have a different experience in those moments.

“Those are the facts. I think it did get to them in a couple of situations.”

Rovers had 14 attempts at goal, but only two on target, as they failed to make the most of their 62 per cent possession.

“We kept dribbling at an open target instead of shooting, more or less, or the cross didn't pick out the man, there wasn't quality in the crossing,” Tomasson said.

“We didn't make the right choices.”
