Bradley Dack will miss the Easter Monday game at Huddersfield Town in a further blow to Jon Dahl Tomasson’s attacking options.
Rovers will already be without Sorba Thomas, with the on-loan winger unable to feature against his parent club.
And now Tomasson has confirmed that Dack will also miss the trip to the John Smith’s Stadium.
The 29-year-old has ‘had a setback’ having return to the squad at Birmingham City last weekend.
It was his first appearance since limping off in the win over Swansea City on February 15, but Tomasson says the attacker will be unavailable again having not made the matchday squad against Norwich City.
That is despite playing 60 minutes in a behind-closed-doors friendly the day after the Birmingham defeat.
It leaves Tomasson’s options stretched at the worst possible time, with Rovers having lost three of their last four Championship matches, and failing to score in their two since the March international break.
The hope is that Dack will be available again when Hull City visit Ewood Park on Saturday, April 15 and for what promises to be a busy end to the season, although Tomasson could give no guarantees.
He said: “No, he will be out for Monday as well.
“He’s not ready, not there, a little bit of a setback in that way.”
Tomasson turned to Sorba Thomas, Callum Brittain and Adam Wharton off the bench before Tyrhys Dolan got his chance in the final seven minutes.
Dolan was the one player to miss out from the Birmingham win as Ben Brereton returned to the starting line-up having only been on the bench at St Andrew’s.
Jack Vale is out through injury, and it is touch and go whether the striker will feature again this season, leaving Sam Gallagher as the only recognised No.9 fit and available.
Asked about the increasing lack of attacking options, Tomasson added: “It’s true, there’s no reason to talk about the transfer market, we all know that.
“We will go on with the players we have and they have done a great job for the club so far.”
Thomas had started every game since signing on loan in January until dropping onto the bench against Birmingham.
Despite being unable to play on Monday, Ryan Hedges kept his place on the right flank, with Thomas once again among the substitutes where he stayed until the final half hour.
“Of course but I am always watching training like the rest of my staff,” Tomasson said of the difficulty of the decision.
“Sometimes it's very close, sometimes it's a feeling and sometimes it's a big difference. It was not a big difference.”
