Rovers’ win over Swansea City could have come at a cost with both Ben Brereton and Bradley Dack taken off injured.

Dack was on the pitch for only 12 minutes before signalling to the bench that he needed to be replaced.

He was able to walk off the pitch, but sustained the problem when trying to get on the end of a Sorba Thomas delivery.

By this point Rovers had already seen Brereton replaced after feeling his hamstring when stretching for a John Buckley cross.

It leaves Rovers facing the prospect of being without their main two sources of goals, with another game on the horizon as they host Blackpool at Ewood Park on Tuesday.

Ryan Hedges and Sam Szmodics finished the game in attack for Rovers, with Sorba Thomas and Tyrhys Dolan completing the forward line.

Providing an update after the game, head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson said: “We know this period is a tough period with the intensity of the league. Probably the highest intensity in the world.

“We are dealing with that and we must use the whole squad. I can't say if they will be injured for a while because I don't know. It is never good for two players to go off. I don't know (the issues).

“It was when he (Brereton) almost scored and he sprinted. The 'keeper saved it well and he felt it.

“It was untimely. It won't be six or eight weeks. Let's wait and see (for Tuesday).”

Tomasson had stressed the need to protect Dack who had played every game in 2023 prior to dropping to the bench against Swansea.

He had also been replaced on the hour at West Bromwich Albion, with Tomasson not wanting to overburden the 29-year-old who had been short of game-time until after the World Cup break.

Tomasson resisted until the 72nd minute when bringing on Dack in place of Sam Gallagher.

He added: “I wanted to play him because I want to have that goal.

“On the other hand he’s played a lot of games and coming back from those two terrible injuries, he’s done really well.

“I’m pleased for the boy but getting that (injury) isn’t brilliant. Let’s wait and see.”

There was better news on the injury front from Tomasson who says Joe Rankin-Costello is in contention to return for Tuesday night’s game with Blackpool.

Rankin-Costello had started every league game since December 17 until an injury sustained in the draw at West Bromwich Albion kept him out at the weekend.

But the 23-year-old is in contention to return to the side and boost Tomasson’s options for the Seasiders’ visit.
