Clinton Mola has interest from another Championship team as his Rovers future remains in the balance.

Mola was an unused substitute as Rovers progressed in the FA Cup fourth round with victory at Norwich City on Sunday.

The 21-year-old was back in the squad after a bout of illness over the festive period and hasn’t featured since the Carabao Cup defeat to Nottingham Forest last month.

Mola has made six appearances since joining on deadline day from Bundesliga side Stuttgart on a season-long loan.

That included a surprise start in the East Lancashire derby, days after impressing in the Carabao Cup tie at West Ham United.

His season-long loan deal includes the option for Rovers to make the deal permanent in the summer.

However, his loan hasn’t materialised as he would have hoped, with opportunities limited.

The England Under-21 international is wanted by a Championship side which could offer the opportunity for him to get more game-time in the second half of the season.

That could benefit Mola and also parent club Stuttgart, but Rovers won’t want to leave themselves short in the second half of the campaign given the injury issues they have had in defence at stages this season.

Any decision over Mola would also need the permanent option within his deal to be taken into consideration.

Like George Hirst, it would require Mola to be recalled by his parent club before loaned elsewhere, therefore cutting short his Rovers loan and ending the permanent option within his current deal.

Hirst joined League One side Ipswich Town on loan for the rest of the season, and remains to be seen whether a similar conclusion will be reached with Mola.

He has filled in at left back, and with interest in Tayo Edun, who was also an unused substitute at Norwich, Rovers won’t want to leave themselves light of cover.
