George Hirst has been recalled by Leicester City and has since joined Ipswich Town on loan for the remainder of the season.
That has seen the permanent option within his Rovers agreement cancelled and cuts short his season-long stay at Ewood Park.
Hirst joined on the eve of deadline day, agreeing a season-long loan from Leicester that included the option for Rovers to make it permanent this summer.
However, he struggled to make an impact, featuring in only 11 games and starting three Championship matches without scoring.
With Rovers unable to cut short the loan deal under the terms of the agreement signed in the summer, he has been recalled by the Foxes where he signed a new three-year deal in August.
Hirst watched Ipswich’s FA Cup tie against one of his former loan clubs, Rotherham United, and has since signed for the League One promotion chasers on loan for the remainder of the season.
The 23-year-old returns to League One having scored 14 goals during his time with Portsmouth last season.
