Burnley have had plenty of praise from opposition managers this season, but Vincent Kompany is determined to block out the noise.
Birmingham boss John Eustace described the Clarets as the best team in the league after Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw at St Andrew’s.
Kompany’s men are currently third in the Championship table and have lost just once since the start of the campaign, but the Burnley chief is keeping his feet firmly on the ground.
“As long as it is very clear out there to the wider public that we are not jumping on any hype train whatsoever,” he said.
“It really lives within the club. We keep things simple behind the scenes and I hope that people recognise us for that side of the game as well as how hard the lads are working.
“You can see when all those balls are coming in – there wasn’t necessarily a lot of tempo to the game when we played Birmingham, which was very different to Swansea. But it is the nature of the league, you get different types of opposition.
“But every second ball, we have got numbers there. Every time that ball is going for a flick, we have got people breaking their necks to get back. We are making runs. And I want that side of the team to be put forward, which is the basics.
“Then the flavour that you try to add by some combinations of players beating an opponent, hopefully that will get better with time. That is what we work on every day as well.”
Defensive pair Ian Maatsen and Jordan Beyer both missed the trip to Birmingham through injury, but Kompany says they won’t be out for long.
The Clarets also have an important fixture against sixth-place Norwich City coming up on Tuesday night.
The manager added: "I think it is going to be a last-minute decision. The positive thing is they are not big injuries, they are little setbacks.
“But the calendar is so crowded so unfortunately two or three games can pass in the blink of an eye. Hopefully we will have them back, if not for Saturday then for Tuesday.”
