Middlesbrough interim boss Leo Percovich was left ruing an “unbelievable” save by Thomas Kaminski during his side’s 2-1 defeat against Rovers.
Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men took the lead through Darragh Lenihan’s early own goal, with Sam Gallagher adding a second 13 minutes later.
The hosts pulled one back through Duncan Watmore on the stroke of half time before Kaminski made a vital stop to deny Chuba Akpom from close range.
Rovers held on to secure all three points and climb to fifth place in the Championship table – just one point off the automatic promotion spots.
But Percovich believes his side would have gone on to win the game had it not been for Kaminski’s stop.
He told the club’s website: “It is difficult because we started with a plan and after we conceded an own goal from a corner kick, we got ‘butterflies’ a little.
“But the team stood up. Then we conceded an amazing goal from them – it was a fantastic shot. But the team took those two punches and were still looking to play.
“They came back strong in the last parts of the first half and found a goal the way we were looking for. We come back in the second half dominating the game totally.
“The chances we had, especially the unbelievable save the goalkeeper made from Chuba. In normal moments, that is a goal.
“But today the ball didn’t go in and I believe that if the ball goes in, for sure we would have won the game.”
Rovers’ busy schedule continues on Tuesday night when they welcome Sunderland to Ewood Park (KO 8pm).
