NELSON boss Nick Jackson-Cooney says he wants the chance to take relegated Blues back into Vodkat League Division One.
The Victoria Park outfit finished bottom of Division One after losing 4-1 at Flixton on Tuesday night in their final game of the season.
There remains a slim possibility that Nelson may escape the drop, as the North West Counties look to re-shape the two divisions for the 2008/09 campaign.
However, Jackson-Cooney, the last of three managers in the Blues hot-seat this season, has resigned himself to relegation.
And after taking charge for Nelson's last 10 games, he is hopeful of being given the chance of taking the club back up.
"I'm going to speak to the chairman Alan Pickering and, hopefully, he will see the bigger picture," said Jackson-Cooney.
"I was given the chance to keep Nelson up and, unfortunately, that's not happened.
"But we've improved and I'd like to think he'd give me the opportunity to bring players in this summer and build my own team."
Jackson-Cooney was given little time to resurrect Nelson's flagging fortunes, after former managers Terry Fildes and Denny Khan had earlier parted company with the club.
He added: "There's a culmination of reasons for us being relegated. One of the big problems is that we've had three managers this season, and five in the last two seasons.
"It always makes life more difficult for the new manager when it's like that.
"Perhaps it's a blessing that we've gone down - it may make us a stronger club in the long run.
"I cannot blame the players though. In the last 10 games, the lads have done themselves justice.
"I suppose if had played the whole season like we've done in that 10-game period, we'd be a lot higher up the league."
